Counseling
My name is Gina Marie Krueger and I’m the school counselor at Blackwell Elementary. This will be my seventh year serving the Bobcat community, though I am returning from a one year leave of absence (from the 2023-24 school year).
As school counselor, my role is to support the academic, social/emotional, personal and career development of the students here at Blackwell. My goal is to see every student reach their full potential as they grow into contributing members of their learning communities and society.
If you ask your student what my job description is, they will tell you that I’m the “feelings teacher” or “the problem-solving teacher” which I absolutely love and they are right! Many times, students will experience big feelings or get stuck with a problem which gets in their way of learning and being their best at school. I’m here to help them navigate through those emotions and struggles.
My job includes collaborating with parents, teachers, and community members to meet each students' unique educational needs. I assist students in a variety of ways. First, I teach classroom guidance lessons to every class, every other week, throughout the school year. I use Second Step curriculum and Kelso’s problem-solving curriculum. Second Step contains units that teach the following: Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, Problem Solving, Bully Prevention and Personal Safety. Second, I can support students in a small group setting for those who need extra skill building around specific topics like, friendship, social skills, self-regulation, organization, changing families and any other areas of need. Lastly, I am available to meet with students individually to discuss any area of student concern. (Most of the time, they need support with friends and negotiating conflicts.) Students know how to self-refer and I welcome referrals from teachers and parents as well.
I look forward to partnering with you to support your student’s educational needs. It’s a privilege to get to work with and serve this amazing community. Thank you for your trust. Please reach out to me anytime with questions, comments or concerns. I am SO happy to be back on campus this year!
