4th/5th Multiage Classrooms

This page contains information about the shift to 4/5 multiage classrooms at Blackwell beginning in the 2025-26 school year.

This information was shared directly with our incoming fourth and fifth grade families.

Timeline:

May, 2024 – District announces transition in elementary staffing model in grades 4 and 5 – Link to communication sent to all LWSD K-3 Families 

Spring 2025 – Blackwell staffing is provided to school. Staffing indicates we will shift from six 4^th and 5^th grade teachers to 5 teachers to teach grades 4 and 5.  Administration meets with the 4^th and 5^th teachers to discuss and determine classroom configuration based on district and labor union process. Blackwell teachers and administrators decide to create 4/5 multiage classrooms for the next two years.

May 7, 2025 – Blackwell principal sends communication to current 3rd and 4^th grade families detailing the shift from traditional straight grade levels to all 4/5 multiage classrooms. Link to May 7th Communication
